.: Help for quell Quell is your defence against workings that attack the mind. You put the spell down before it takes hold, the way you would smother a flame rather than dodge it. You do not type quell. Like dodge, parry and block, it happens on its own when something reaches for you. ━━━ How It Works ━━━ Uses: Willpower and your Spellcasting skill Costs: Quell spends Conviction, not Stamina Answers: Spells that attack the mind Your spellcasting skill lowers the price; carried load does not affect this mental defence. If you cannot pay in full, quell still answers the spell after spending what remains, but without Spellcasting skill. Only the defence selected for the incoming effect is charged. A spell that attacks the body is answered by dodge or block instead. Which defence applies is decided by the spell, not by you. ━━━ Degrees of Success ━━━ Quelling is not all or nothing. Put a working down decisively and it does nothing at all. Only just manage it and the spell still reaches you, weakened. A barely successful quell is better than none, and a masterful one is better still. The narrated response follows the actual degree of defence rather than a fixed line. ━━━ Improving It ━━━ Spellcasting: the skill that carries most of the weight Willpower: improves through use, and raises every mental defence Casters defend against casters. Studying the art teaches you to recognise it coming. See Also: help defy, help defense, help spellcasting help conviction, help combat
