Your title reflects who you are — it is earned, not chosen.
It has three parts:

  Mutation Tier  Based on your total mutation load.
                  Awakened, Evolved, Ascendant, or Exalted.
                  No mutations means no prefix.

  Skill Tier    Based on aggregate skill progress across
                  all 17 skills. Ranges from scrub to master.

  Archetype     Based on which stats you lean toward.
                  Warriors favor Strength, rogues favor
                  Dexterity, channelers favor Willpower, etc.
                  Balanced builds may produce hybrid archetypes
                  like paladin, duelist, or sage.

Example titles:
  scrub warrior         — new character, Strength-focused
  Awakened expert sage  — mutated, skilled, Willpower+Charisma
  Exalted master duelist — heavily mutated, max skills, Str+Dex

Usage: 
  title   — view your current title and breakdown

Archetypes:
  Pure:   warrior, rogue, scout, guardian, channeler,
          orator
  Hybrid: paladin, juggernaut, duelist, ranger, sage,
          seer, stoic
  Even:   generalist
