.: Help for unarmed-combat skill The unarmed-combat skill governs fighting with fists, claws, and bare hands. ━━━ Attacks ━━━ - Both Hands: Every empty hand attacks as a fist. Two arms = two fists. Six arms = six fists. - Fist/Claws Weapons: These train unarmed-combat, not weapon-combat. Empty offhand still punches. - Mixed Setup: Sword in one hand, empty offhand? The free hand punches too. - No Dual-Wield Penalty: Fists, claws, and bare hands fight naturally with no accuracy loss. - Grapple-Friendly: Fists and claws have very short reach. They stay fully effective in clinches and ground grapples where long weapons become awkward. - Grapple Drift: unarmed-combat is the primary skill that determines who wins each round of a grapple's drift toward advance, hold, reversal, or escape. See help grapple for the full picture. ━━━ Speed ━━━ Unarmed fighters are faster than armed ones. The speed bonus compensates for having dodge as the only defense. ━━━ Defense ━━━ Unarmed-style fighters (bare hands, fists, claws) can only dodge. You cannot parry without a weapon or block without a shield. Dodging trains unarmed-combat and dexterity. ━━━ Progression ━━━ This skill improves through use: - Landing hits with fists or claws - Using kick, trip, and grapple - Dodging attacks - Each arm that hits progresses the skill independently See also: help combat, help kick, help trip, help grapple, help submission
